In 2020 we will travel to Indonesia for the third time for a Muskathlon with Compassion! And we don't just do that. Indonesia is a beautiful country, with thousands of islands and a particularly rich history. However, a large part of the population suffers from extreme poverty. With this Muskathlon we fight against the consequences of this among the children in Indonesia and we make a statement against the injustice they suffer as well.

The story behind the Indonesia Muskathlon | Sumba
During the past two Muskathlons, the drama of poverty on these islands has become increasingly clear. Because the debt problem on that island is so great, many parents leave their children to work elsewhere. Children are left to their own devices and even sold to raise some money. Sumba is the main supplier within Indonesia of children who are put to work in households, factories and in the sex industry. A horrible reality that the local church in Sumba wants to oppose.
The Muskathlon wants to encourage pastors in their fight against this injustice and make a significant contribution by visiting the island again with a group of muskathletes to free even more children from poverty. Imagine that you can protect a few children from living as a child worker or as a sex slave. This is worth every effort!

The Muskathlon
The Muskathlon is an ultimate challenge in an extreme location, to raise maximum funds to combat injustice. This Muskathlon will take place from 4 to 15 June 2020 in Indonesia.

The Muskathlon week
During the Muskathlon week you will be exposed to the raw reality of extreme poverty. We know Indonesia for its lush beaches and luxury vacations, but for a large part of the population, daily life is a struggle for survival. As always, children are the first and biggest victims of poverty. The work of Compassion makes a huge difference for them.

In the Compassion projects, children are given the opportunity to develop and grow up to be loving, independent young people. You get to experience a unique side of Indonesia, you can witness the consequences of severe poverty, but you also see how the church really makes a difference for people in great need.

The weekly program generally looks like this (adjustments can still be made):

  • Saturday: arrival, inspiring session and team time.
  • Sunday: visit to a church service in a slum, meeting local children, first training, inspiring session, team time.
