For the second time we will travel to the Philippines for a Muskathlon with Compassion!
The Philippines is home to an enormous treasure of natural beauty, ranging from coral reefs to active volcanoes surrounded by high mountains. Yet many people live in bitter poverty in this beautiful country. Especially the children are particularly vulnerable to the excesses that the government's globalization entails. You will visit Compassion projects and meet the hospitable population of the Philippines and many sponsored children.
The Muskathlon is an ultimate challenge in an extreme location, to raise maximum funds to fight injustice. For this special edition of the Muskathlon you will perform a half or whole traithlon. The half and full triathlon are also offered in relay form. If you are interestedin to preform the triathlon in ralay we ask you to form / assemble your own team (3 people). Each team member will then perform 1 part of the triathlon (or swimming or running or cycling).
This Muskathlon will take place from 15 to 24 October 2020 in the Philippines.
The story behind the Philippines Muskathlon
The Philippine archipelago consists of more than seven thousand islands in the Pacific, but the vast majority of the population lives on eleven of these islands. The difference between poor and rich is enormous in the Philippines. There is an extreme social and economic inequality and a concentration of power in a small elite. Large parts of the population depend on foreign aid money to be able to provide for their daily maintenance.
Because of the government's focus on globalization, children are increasingly exposed to their negative excesses. Think of family divisions, dangerous drugs, the international sex industry and urban poverty. There is free education, but the large shortages of classrooms, teachers and textbooks can't ensure good quality education in public schools.
The Muskathlon Week
During the Muskathlon Week you will be exposed to the raw reality of extreme poverty. As always, children are the first and largest victim of poverty. The work of Compassion makes a huge difference for them. In the projects of Compassion the children are protected and have access to good education and extra lessons, so that they can develop into independent, joyful youngsters. You will experience a unique side of the Philippines, will witness the consequences of severe poverty, but also see how the church really makes a difference for people in great need.
The triathlon is a combination-duration sport. You do multiple sports (swimming, cycling and running) in a row. The following distances are offered during the Muskathlon:
